I am an impatient person. I hate waiting. In this world we live in being restless is a bad thing. When you are young you are told: ‘you can only have the Yogueta after you finish the cabbage’, when you are a teenager: ‘you are only allowed to have some of your dad’s Gordon’s when you turn 18’ and when you are an adult: ‘you are only allowed to finish when I’m satisfied too’. Kaizer Chiefs are on top of the Absa Premiership, 10 points ahead of second-placed Mamelodi Sundowns. Is it okay for their supporters to begin celebrating or should they practice patients?

Kaizer Chiefs should be considered as a team that is most likely to win the championship. Their assistant coach Shaun Bartlett, however, doesn’t want his side to burdened with the ‘favorites’ tag.

“Anything is possible but like I said, it’s still early days, we’ve only played 11 games so far,” said Bartlett, according to IOL.

“Nobody is given a league title in November or December. We’ve got to be consistent and continue doing what we’ve been doing for the last four months.

“I think that is key. There’s six, seven months to go this season and we’ve got to make sure that we stay consistent.”

As Bartlet has said, Kaizer Chiefs have only played 11 games. There are 19 more games to go – anything can happen. Writing the likes of Mamelodi Sundowns, Bidvest Wits, and Orlando Pirates off right now wouldn’t be one of your smartest ideas. Injuries to key players happen, a dip in the team’s overall performances can happen, and goalkeeping mistakes can happen (especially if the said goalkeeper’s name in Daniel Akpeyi). 

Kaizer Chiefs aren’t going to win 81% of their games like they have been doing. But, even if Chiefs drop a few points from now till the end of the season – so will the chasing pack. It’s the nature of the South African game. For Kaizer Chiefs to win 9 out of their 11 games played is incredible. Sundowns are 10 points behind Chiefs on the table with a game in hand. Bidvest Wits are fifth on the table, 13 points behind Amakhosi with four games in hand. Even if Wits had to win all their outstanding games they’d still be a point behind Chiefs.

As it stands, whether or not Shaun Bartlett, Orlando Pirates supporters or Pitso Mosimane would like to admit it, Kaizer Chiefs are the unequivocal favorites. It’s their league to lose.  So celebrate away Amakhosi faithful, it’s been a long wait.
