CAF Champions League: Matchday 3 – Sundowns impress whilst Pirates digress

Mamelodi Sundowns made light work of what is a good CAF Champions League side in ASEC Mimosas whilst Orlando Pirates threw the kitchen sink at Esperance de Tunis and missed.

Mamelodi Sundown 3-1 ASEC Mimosas

Mamelodi Sundown beat ASEC Mimosas to move top of Group A in the CAF Champions League.

Sundowns are proving to be a tough team to contend with at home in the CAF Champions League. They swept aside what is a good champions league side in ASEC Mimosas. Pitso Mosimane and his team haven’t had a bad week. First the loss to Chippa United in the Nedbank Cup, then the letter, finally a loss to Amazulu in the league.

Sundowns dominated most of this game and were deserved winners even Emiliano Tade scored a goal on his debut. Good for him. Let’s hope he sees more game time than other players were given [cough] George Lebese [cough].

Orlando Pirates 0-0 Esperance de Tunis

Pirates v Esperance

Like rapper Ace Hood (remember him?) once said ‘Same ol’ shit just a different day’, this phrase best describes Orlando Pirates games. Against Esperance de Tunis, Orlando Pirates had plenty of chances to win the game.

Esperance’s defence was playing deep. Their centrebacks were on the goalkeeper’s toes but all of Pirates dominance came to nil. A few wrong calls for offside by the linesmen and a few bad decisions in front of goal cost Orlando Pirates 3 points.
