Here are 10 reasons why Sundowns supporters should be concerned:

1. They are losing their best players every season

Percy Tau, Khama Billiat, Bongani Zungu, and Keagan Dolly are some of their best performing players they have lost over the last few seasons.

Sundowns Percy Tau

Selling your best players every year isn’t a good idea, especially if you want to win trophies.  Then again, in the grander scheme of things if we want our country’s football to improve we must encourage the exportation of our most gifted talent.

It’s a lose-lose situation for Sundowns.

If they sell, they have to find talent on the same level but most of the time…

2. Their replacements aren’t as good.

Mamelodi Sundowns aren’t just losing players – they are losing their most prized players.

This is how things work in the world of football; amazing talent is difficult to replace.

There are only so many good players you can buy and not many players are available in the market because…

4. their recent form is bad.

Sundowns have won three, lost three and drawn five of their last 11 games.

That’s poor and…

5. they aren’t scoring goals.

In their last 11 games played they have only managed to score eight goals. That’s 0.72 goals per game.

6. Losing Sibusiso Vilakazi to a long-term injury doesn’t help.

Sibusiso Vilakazi has ruptured his Achilles tendon. Sundowns have confirmed that he will be out for six months.

Vilakazi is a key player who could play behind the striker or a bit deeper in the midfield. His goals from those positions will be missed. Whilst in defence…

7. Rivaldo Coetzee is also still injured.

Well, he wasn’t when he featured for the first time in over a year during the Multichoice Diski Challenge festival in Hammarsdale, Kwa-Zulu Natal last month. But his official debut for Downs is set back by another hamstring injury. In other news…

8. Andile Jali has domestic problems.

Jali spent Monday night at the Pretoria East police station and was released on bail on Tuesday morning after making a brief appearance in court on a charge of domestic violence.

Based on talent, Jali is Downs’ best midfielder. His issues off the field might affect his performance on it.
