‘Not much respect for Arsenal…’ – Pep Guardiola

Watching Pep Guardiola on the sideline against Arsenal in their FA Cup clash was sad. He was clearly shocked at what he was witnessing. His team, full of superstars, were failing to penetrate Arsenal’s double-decker London bus.

Yesterday Pep Guardiola came out with a statement saying he doesn’t respect Arsenal… “off the pitch”

“The opponents always deserve my respect and credit, and Arsenal, they have it..

“I have all the respect for what Arsenal are on the pitch – not much off the pitch, but on the pitch a lot. So I congratulate them and good luck against Chelsea in the final.”

Pep Guardiola and City reportedly believe Arsenal are one of a number of clubs to have previously called on the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) not to agree to any delay to their two-year European ban, which has since been overturned.

UEFA had accused City of breaking their Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules. They apparently overstated sponsorship revenue in their accounts and in the break-even information submitted between 2012 and 2016. They also failed to co-operate with its investigation.

It’s funny how Pep could take aim at Arsenal when managers like Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp and Tottenham head coach Jose Mourinho have been the loudest in their criticism of the decision by CAS to overturn City’s ban.

Guardiola is mad. Mad at the fact he lost to an Arsenal side who his team should be beating 9 times out of 10. He is made Arsenal snatched Arteta from him. He is mad Arteta went on to knock him out of the FA Cup.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer: ‘It didn’t work today…’

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Manchester United side got beat by 3 goals to 1 against Chelsea in the semi-final of the FA Cup last night. His team was trash.

Solskjaer made five changes from the team that had won 0-2 against Crystal Palace during the week.

Not only did he make alterations to the team, he decided to make adjustments to the setup too. Abandoning the 4-2-3-1 formation and starting with a 5-3-2.

After claiming “We picked a team to give us a best possible opportunity to go through in the cup…” He admitted that his team selection “didn’t work”

What Should Be Considered A Less Than Crappy First Season For Jose Mourinho?

“We picked a team to give us a best possible opportunity to go through in the cup and be ready for Wednesday [against West Ham]. It didn’t work today. We had to change things at half-time when Eric came off but that will stand us in good stead for Wednesday. I picked the team today to go through.”

Before this loss, Manchester United shit didn’t stink. They were 19 games unbeaten and played their best football post-lockdown. Going on a run of 6 wins, 2 draws, and 0 defeats. Apart from the first game back against Spurs and an FA Cup quarterfinal game versus Norwich City, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer played with the same eleven.

The team was free-flowing and scoring goals for fun. This is why it came as a surprise to many when Ole changed the team and system so drastically for such a big game.

“Everyone has to perform and everyone has a chance to stake a claim,” Solskjaer said defending his decision to field his B team.

The B Team

Manchester United’s first team has been brilliant but things most often fall apart once the substitutes are introduced. Players like Fred, Williams, and McTominay, who all have had great seasons pre-lockdown, now look like they should be playing for Norwich. And their goalkeeper…. Don’t get me started on David De Gea…

“David knows he should have saved the second goal, but that’s done now. It’s hard for a goalkeeper to make amends. It’s so much easier for outfield players. He showed in the rest of the game that he made a few good saves but David knows he should have saved that one.”

David De Gea was at fault for the first two goals and should have done better on the third. De Gea has been bad for a couple of years now. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer needs to make difficult decisions on the goalkeeping position.

United may have been overhyped. Chelsea were the first decent team they played against post-lockdown and they made them look average. Manchester United supporters should keep faith in their attacking talent. But their manager, defence, and goalkeeper shouldn’t inspire much confidence going forward.

What Should Be Considered A Less Than Crappy First Season For Jose Mourinho?

Breakups are never easy. I remember when I got dumped by my girlfriend, it was one of the saddest days of my life, I was 10. She found a new boyfriend the next week, the guy happened to be my best friend. I got over it, but I’ve been wishing death on that prick ever since (you’ll be glad to know he is still alive, according to Facebook). Tottenham did the same thing my girl did to me when they parted ways with their manager of five years Mauricio Pochettino. But, instead of waiting a week, they waited around 12 hours to show off their new lover: Jose Mourinho

In fairness, Tottenham stank over the past 12 months. Spurs had won just six of their 24 Premier League matches this calendar year.  It was time for Poch to go. Manchester United legend and now talking head on Sky Sports described the Tottenham and Jose Mourinho union as a “marriage of convenience” saying, “Mourinho needed to get back into the Premier League to re-establish himself. Levy needed someone who could get the football club quickly back up to a level that is acceptable and into the Champions League. This is a marriage of convenience.”

FA Cup: Arsenal v Manchester United – A Game That Means More To The Managers Than It Does The Players

Both the Arsenal and Manchester United managers have a lot at riding on Friday evenings game. The Gunners host the Red Devils in the 4th round of the FA Cup.

I had to lie to my girlfriend as say I had some important career-defining work I had to complete tonight because Fridays are date nights (Let’s hope she doesn’t read this).

My dishonesty aside, this evening’s game is an important one. It’s an important game for the supporters, it’s an important game for the players, and it’s an especially important game for the managers.
