PSL: Ernst Middendorp on Kaizer Chiefs Goalkeeping Woes – It’s Just Irritating

Kaizer Chiefs have lost points from good positions in three of their last six games in the Premiership because of goalkeeping errors. Ernst Middendorp isn’t happy.

Since Itumeleng Khune got injured at the beginning of the year, Kaizer Chiefs have been having goalkeeping issues. Amakhosi coach Ernst Middendorp voiced out his frustration on the issue.

“If I had an explanation for why we conceded these [soft] goals against Sundowns, Cape Town City or today again, I would give you an answer,”

“But this is unexplainable, it’s just irritating and not comfortable for all of us [to deal with]. I think to concede in such a way, I didn’t see any other opportunities for Polokwane City.

“With all due respect, we scored two goals.”

We as supporters take for granted how important a goalkeeper is. They aren’t many outstanding goalkeepers on Itumeleng Khune’s level. Kaizer Chiefs signed Chippa United’s Daniel Akpeyi in the January transfer window. I thought that was strange because Akpeyi is a mistake-prone keeper.

Ernst Middendorp and Kaizer Chiefs’ hands are tied, there isn’t much they can do about this situation. They could thrust young keeper Bvuma into the limelight but Kaizer Chiefs fans are unforgiving and should he make mistakes that cost Amakhosi points, the supporters will be on his back.

Even After Loss Ernst Middendorp’s Kaizer Chiefs Look Better Than They Did Under Solinas

Kaizer Chiefs lost 2-1 against Mamelodi Sundowns last Saturday afternoon. Even after the loss, under Ernst Middendorp, Kaizer Chiefs look like a better team than they did with Giovanni Solinas.

Amakhosi came up against league champions Mamelodi Sundowns on Saturday afternoon in the first PSL game since the new year. This was supposedly billed as a title decider which was strange as both teams haven’t been at their best this season.

Sundowns started off the brightest. They scored their first goal after only 3 minutes through Anthony Laffor. Kaizer Chiefs regained their composure and got their equaliser in the 16th minute by way of a Willard Katsande stooping header. Amakhosi dominated the rest of the first stanza.
