Mamelodi Sundowns suffered their second consecutive loss in only four days after they fell to Amazulu last night. Should we start ringing the alarm bells?
Mamelodi Sundowns suffered their first defeat of the Absa Premiership after losing 2-0 to AmaZulu on Tuesday evening. The loss ended their 28-game unbeaten run in the league.
This defeat comes hot on the heels of their Nedbank Cup exit over the weekend in which they lost 2-1 to struggling Chippa United.
Is it time for Mamelodi Sundowns supporters to panic?
In their loss to Chippa United over the weekend, Mamelodi Sundowns had the majority of possession but couldn’t finish off their chances. Last night it was as if I was watching the same movie with different actors.
Summary of the game:
(a) Mamelodi Sundowns dominate possession.
(b) Mamelodi Sundowns get an opportunity to score.
(c) Mamelodi Sundowns miss.
(d) Amazulu gets a rare opportunity to score.
(e) Amazulu score.
(f) Repeat.

Implications
Mamelodi Sundowns blew their chance to go top of the table. Downs needed to win with a two-goal margin to leapfrog Bidvest Wits for pole position.
Mamelodi Sundowns have two games in hand over first-placed Bidvest Wits and 2nd placed Orlando Pirates. But, games in hand mean nothing if you can’t convert them to points.
Drama
The game itself was fairly entertaining (if you find one team dominating the ball, missing their chances and being punished on the opposite end amusing) but the real action came before a ball was kicked.
Disgruntled former Mamelodi Sundowns forward Toni Silva released a statement (which was riddled with foul language, spelling and grammatical mistakes – but we appreciate the effort) addressed to Pitso Mosimane.
“Pitso, you are the weakest coach I have ever had in my life,” said Silva in a statement. “You are arrogant and your ego does not help as you make players unhappy.
“After killing the dreams and careers of players you say ‘it did not work out’. I was under your management for six months and we did the same training every day.
“You always say that if a player is good in a match he will start the next one, but that is not true because you have favourites.
“Since joining Sundowns you never gave me a chance to play in my traditional position on the right wing and then you tell the media that ‘things did not work out’.”
Scathing. But I enjoyed it so much I read it three times. The soccer fraternity (aka people on social media) are now calling Toni ‘Angelo Agrizzi’ Silva thanks to his with ‘exposé’. Pitso Mosimane or the club haven’t replied to the call out.
