George Lebese’s career seemed to be wasting away on Mamelodi Sundown’s bench. Pitso Mosimane, however, has given him the green-light to leave the club this transfer window, the only problem is… no ‘big’ club is interested.
After Mamelodi Sundowns beat Libyan side Al Ahly Benghazi 4-0 on the 22nd of December last year to progress to the group stages of the CAF Champions League, Downs coach Pitso Mosimane was asked about midfielder George Lebese.
“Why are you only asking me about George?…”
Which should have been a response the reporter expected.
“…It’s not only him. But okay, he is struggling to get into the team and it’s a fact,”
“What I like about George is that he is not casual, he works hard and has lost about 6kgs since he got here (I would too if I was stressed at my lack of game time). But when you come on you have got to switch it on so we don’t forget you. It’s a bit tough for George (a bit?).

I like him as a person outside football (meaning you don’t like him as a player inside football?), but you know sometimes you get those who don’t crack it (a.k.a he isn’t good enough). I did not work out, so I understand that he wants to move. We don’t want to kill his career, (too late)”
George Lebese joined Sundowns from Kaizer Chiefs in August 2017 and has had as many appearances as one has fingers on their hand.
With his time coming to an end at Chloorkop, which club is he likely to join?
Kaizer Chiefs?

That was, in my opinion, a desperate move to get Kaizer Chiefs to consider his return. Soccer Laduma reported Kaizer Chiefs will not entertain any talk of George Lebese returning to Naturena.
Cape Town City?
SowetanLIVE reported that when asked about George Lebese a source from Cape Town City told them “His name has not been mentioned even once, but you never know. Let’s wait and see.”
Best of the rest?
Since ‘big teams’ aren’t keen on signing him, it’s been said that many of the ‘smaller’ teams have let be known about their interest. Golden Arrows and Bloemfontein Celtic are the front runners but apparently, he isn’t keen on relocating. I guess in this case the beggar has become the chooser.
George Lebese may feel he deserves to play for a championship calibre team. The issue is… nobody has seen him play for the whole year plus, he is on a huge salary that is enough to handle a smaller team’s payroll.
He isn’t going to take a pay cut at a club with the financial muscle to handle his wages but, he is good enough to deserve his wages. Where ever he goes he’ll salary will still be high compared too most. He is a decent player but he never lit the PSL on fire in any case. His lack of pace as a winger and lack of goals as an attacking player is a turn off for a team playing to win trophies.
