Kaizer Chiefs have only won three of their 11 games in the league under Giovanni Solinas. After their loss to Orlando Pirates, it’s clear that Amakhosi made a mistake by hiring the Italian coach.

Orlando Pirates assistant coach Rhulani Mokwena told reporters earlier last week.
“…losing Steve Komphela was a big loss for Chiefs from a technical perspective and the type of leader that he is as well as the tactical acumen that he possesses.”
What he meant to say was: “Giovanni Solinas doesn’t know what he is doing.”
Which is true.
Kaizer Chiefs lost against Orlando Pirates last Saturday. Orlando Pirates looked comfortable even after conceding the first goal, they came back to secure a 2-1 victory.

The midfield pairing of Siphelele Ntshangase and Willard Katsande were missing in key defensive areas in the first half, Khama Billiat – Kaizer Chiefs best attacking player- had to feed off scraps and their defence was woeful.

“We started the game very well. We scored – we led 1-0‚” Solinas said.
You went one goal up in a big game, I’ll give you that.
“After that [in the first half] we lost concentration. We lost the distances and defensively it was soft.
Your defence was leaky more than Malusi Gigaba’s nudes.
“In the second half the guys performed very well. We created the chances.
For the first 10 minutes.
“I think this derby was balanced. Pirates did not dominate‚ maybe Kaizer Chiefs did not dominate.
I do not know which derby game you were watching.
“But congratulations to Pirates for winning this derby. And apologies to our supporters because when you have lost the derby it’s painful.
It should be painful.
“The guys put the effort up to the last minutes trying to score‚ trying to equalise‚ trying to not lose this derby.
“OK‚ this is football. I think in the second half the performance was positive‚ and now we need to understand why we lost the concentration after we scored [in the first half].
Uhm not really.
“And we need to continue to play because this is football‚ and in the derby the details make the difference.
“But we will take the lessons from this derby. And we need to improve in our mentality‚ and need to understand that we are Kaizer Chiefs and we need a winning mentality.
Duh…
“We will try now to develop this mentality. I am sure in the future the guys will have this mentality.
I wonder if it’s possible to buy this mentality you speak of.
“Sometimes to develop this mentality you need these kinds of games‚ where you stay on top of your emotions. We need to manage these emotions.
blah blah blah.
“We have a game on Saturday. Now we need to forget this derby. Sorry. Apologies to our supporters. But life continues.”
Kaizer Chiefs must be kicking themselves for falling for Giovanni Solinas’ charm in the interview.
I’m sure he promised them the best-attacking football in the league. Isn’t Giovanni Solinas an Italian and are Italians best known for their defence rather than their offence?
