World Cup 2018: Group G Last Games Review

With the last fixtures in each group being played this week, the World Cup games are getting a bit more exciting. All the trash teams like Nigeria (no offence) who have unnecessarily taken up 90 minutes of our time are being swept aside and the teams we expected to progress are advancing to the round of 16. Let’s review the last games in group G.

Group G

There always seems to be hype around England going into any major tournament and rarely do they deliver.

Maybe it’s because I consume English media, what did I expect? Or maybe it’s because the English are delusional, makes more sense doesn’t it? Whatever it is, it’s pretty damn annoying.

In all fairness nobody, not even Englishmen, ever predicted England to win this World Cup. England coach Gareth Southgate has little to no pressure going into this tournament.

Belgium may have the best cast of individual players in the tournament, Eden Hazard, Romelu Lukaku, Kevin De Bryne, just to name a few. This is clearly their ‘Golden Generation’ it would be a waste of talent if these group of guys don’t win at least one major trophy.

I expected Panama to play like they were just happy to be here and for Tunisia to be a tough team to play against but they wouldn’t have enough firepower to cause a threat to England and Belgium.

World Cup 2018: Group H Last Games Review

With the last fixtures in each group being played this week. The World Cup games are getting a bit more exciting. All the trash teams like Nigeria (no offence) who have unnecessarily taken up 90 minutes of our time are being swept aside and the teams we expected to progress are advancing to the round of 16. Let’s review the last games in group H.

Group H

It may have not been necessarily the ‘Group of Death’ but it would be tough to predict who the two teams to advance to the last-16 would be.

Japan had a mediocre qualifying campaign but they are a well-organised team with players who ‘know soccer’.

Poland have a striker in Robert Lewandowski who could be the best centre-forward in Europe if not the world. They also have experienced players around him who play in the best leagues in on the continent.

Senegal were the likeliest, out of all the African teams, to qualify for the next round. They have a good coach who has a solid team (even though they kinda, sorta cheated South Africa to get to this World Cup but that’s a story for another day).

Colombia had a very good 2014 World Cup. They have exciting players like Quintero, James Rodriquez, Falcao, and Juan Cuadrado. Los Cafeteros were my favourites to win the group.

World Cup 2018: Group F Last Games Review

With the last fixtures in each group being played this week. The World Cup games are getting a bit more exciting. All the trash teams like Costa Rica (no offence) who have unnecessarily taken up 90 minutes of our time are being swept aside and the teams we expected to progress are advancing to the round of 16. Let’s review the last games in group F.

Group F

I have learnt never to bet my money on a team that:

A. Won the previous World Cup and

B. won the Confederations Cup the year before.

In the past 20 years, these teams have proven time and again that they don’t win the following World Cup and not only that but that play shit too.

World Cup 2018: Group E Last Games Review

With the last fixtures in each group being played this week. The World Cup games are getting a bit more exciting. All the trash teams like Egypt (no offence) who have unnecessarily taken up 90 minutes of our time are being swept aside and the teams we expected to progress are advancing to the round of 16. Let’s review the last games in group E.

Group E

I had Brazil as my favourites to win the World Cup (I hope I didn’t just jinx my prediction by telling you that). This is because they had a very good qualifying campaign and because they are Brazil.

Switzerland have always been a tough team to play against. They beat Spain in their first game in the 2010 World Cup so I definitely wasn’t sleeping on them.  Serbia has a few good players but I didn’t expect much from them. I predicted Costa Rica would be the whipping boys of the group.

World Cup 2018: Group D Last Games Review

With the last fixtures in each group being played this week, the World Cup games are getting a bit more exciting. All the trash teams like Australia (no offence) who have unnecessarily taken up 90 minutes of our time are being swept aside and the teams we expected to progress are advancing to the round of 16. Let’s review the last games in group D.

Group D

If you had seen Argentina in the qualifiers you knew they were and still are a bad team. I was not surprised when Croatia beat the crap out of them, I was only shocked that is was only 3.

Argentina aren’t a good as some people think, they have its-only-matter-of-time-till-he-makes-a-mistake defenders, below average midfielders, and a few talented players, the most talented of all being Lionel Messi. The only medal missing from Messi’s cabinet is a World Cup gold* and many people thought this would be the tournament he gets it.

World Cup 2018: Group C Last Games Review

With the last fixtures in each group being played this week, the World Cup games are getting a bit more exciting. All the trash teams like Panama (no offence) who have unnecessarily taken up 90 minutes of our lives are being swept aside and the teams we expected to progress are advancing to the round of 16. Let’s review the last games in group C.

Group C

I was praying for Paul Pogba to have a good World Cup to prove his haters wrong. Pogba isn’t playing the kind of soccer we’ve seen him play in the past and has been getting plenty of shit for it. I personally think playing under Mourinho has something to do with it.

Pogba isn’t playing as free as I’ve known him to play, he now plays like a player who doesn’t want to make a mistake, he takes the safer option when the old Pogba would do something brain-dead and brilliant at the same time.

World Cup 2018: Group A & B Last Games Review

With the last fixtures in each group being played this week, the World Cup games are getting a bit more exciting. All the trash teams like South Korea (no offence) who have unnecessarily taken up 90 minutes of our time are being swept aside and the teams we expected to progress are advancing to the round of 16. Let’s review the last games in groups A and B.

Group A

I was secretly… okay openly, hoping Russia get eliminated from this group because as a South African I still hate being the only host country to be knocked out of the tournament’s group stage.

Plus we may have had the most difficult group in World Cup history, France, Mexico, and Uruguay… All these teams were in the top 20 of the FIFA rankings… it’s bullshit we ended up being grouped with those guys.

I digress.

I had hoped Egypt would represent the continent well, Uruguay were the favourites and Saudi Arabia had never won a FIFA World Cup game.
