Bidvest Wits aren’t recognized as favourites to win the Absa Premiership but, they are the best team in the league so far.
I didn’t realize, and you probably didn’t too, Gavin Hunt’s Bidvest Wits have been having a good season. Deluded Orlando Pirates supporters have all but crowned their team as the PSL champions. Whilst Mamelodi Sundowns fans think their games in hand give them the advantage.
Well, I got bad news for both of you…
Bidvest Wits are likeliest to win this season’s league. They are on top of the standings, they have scored the most goals, and have they the best goal difference.
After their disappointing 2017/2018 campaign as defending champions, in which they finished 13th, not much was expected from Bidvest Wits this season. Let’s not forget Gavin Hunt is a four-time league champion, more than any other coach in the league. Coach Hunt introduced a 4-4-2 formation and it has paid dividends.
Bidvest Wits host Kaizer Chiefs tomorrow night (09 January 2019) at the Bidvest Stadium. Chiefs look like a better team under new coach Ernst Middendorp but they are still finding their feet. A win against the most famed team in the PSL will put a spotlight on the league leaders and make people realise that they are the real deal. The Clever Boys have won 6 of their last 10 fixtures, which is impressive for PSL standards, and scored 14 goals whilst only conceding 8.

Their rivals Orlando Pirates are inconsistent, Mamelodi Sundowns aren’t the same team without Percy Tau, and Kaizer Chiefs are too many points behind them to be a threat. Bidvest Wits are the prohibitive favourites to win the league I’d actually be surprised if they don’t.
